Russian Citizen Commits Suicide In ‘Vitsba’ Colony

A Russian citizen has committed suicide in the penal colony No. 3 ‘Vitba’. It happened at the end of December 2024, reported human rights activists of Homel Viasna.

The 50-year-old Russian citizen was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment under the ‘narcotic’ article. The prisoner asked to be transferred to Russia to serve his sentence. According to human rights activists, people convicted under such an article in Russia are entitled to parole or other benefits. Previously, such transfers were practiced quite often in Belarus, but this time it was denied.

The controllers failed to find the man during the night inspection. When they started looking for him, they found him dead in the summer clothes dryer.

Former prisoners of ‘Vitsba-3’ say that at least three people died in the colony during 2024 alone. They blame the absence of proper diagnosis of diseases and treatment for everything.
