Gitanas Nausėda also proposes to invite Kyiv to NATO.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda proposed to set January 1, 2030 as the date of Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

“The security of Europe depends on the security of Ukraine. That is why let us speed up Ukraine's accession to the EU. I propose the date of January 1, 2030,” he said at the plenary session of Support Ukraine on Monday, February 24.

Nausėda noted that the opening of the first cluster of negotiations could begin within a few weeks.

“Let's make Ukraine's path to the EU inevitable,” the Lithuanian President emphasized.

He has also added that Ukraine needs real security guarantees. NATO membership is the best, most effective, long-term and cheapest option, he said, and should “remain on the table.”
