The appeal was signed by 30 people.

A group of Nobel laureates has appealed to US President Donald Trump and other world leaders to immediately ensure the release of all political prisoners in Belarus, Voice of America reports.

As stated in the appeal, thousands of political prisoners are currently being held in Belarusian prisons, including presidential candidates, teachers, doctors, workers, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski. It is noted that among the prisoners there are seriously ill and elderly people, and their confinement conditions can be called inhumane. Several political prisoners have already died in prison.

The appeal to release the prisoners and stop the repression is addressed to the Belarusian authorities. Trump and EU leaders are called upon to take urgent and decisive measures to release the prisoners, while public figures and all “people of conscience” are called to support the campaign for their release. The letter was signed by, in particular, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Alexandra Matviychuk and Dmitry Muratov, Literature Prize laureates Sviatlana Alexievich and Herta Müller, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine and Economics laureates — 30 people in total. This is not the first such appeal to Western leaders and the world community.
